Het Noorden water, ‘t zuiden koren op de molen
Bij vlagen waait een bitter taalressentiment

Leona heeft haar centen voor Antwerpse scholen.
 
De burger draait weer op voor de gestoofde kolen
En wacht gelaten op het zalvend sacrament,
De zitting is geheven in het parlement
De blijdschap der chauffeurs is nauwelijks verholen.
 
Haar auto wordt bestuurd door een gewone mens,
Met simpel hart en hier en daar een haartje grijzer.
Hij ziet die dingen door zijn eigen volkse lens,
 
Maar over politiek is hij nog steeds niet wijzer.
Daar is de Dame al en alles ging naar wens!
Waar ruikt ze naar? Naar koekenbak of wafelijzer?
