Dit boek is gebaseerd op historische documenten uit Romeinse en Vaticaanse bibliotheken. Het neemt ons mee naar de 17de eeuw, naar de Heilige Romeinse Inquisitie. De verteller is een Vlaamse jongen die priester is geworden. Hij maakt de vervolging en de veroordeling van het quiëtisme mee, een spirituele beweging waarvan de Spanjaard Miguel Molinos de inspiratiebron was. Molinos is wellicht de laatste die als ketter en heresiarch veroordeeld werd. Het leverde een zwarte bladzijde op in de geschiedenis van de mystiek, ook al door de dubbelzinnige figuur van Molinos zelf. De auteur behandelt de gevoelige stof zonder partij te kiezen, waardoor de lezer zelf moet beslissen of de laatste ketter een martelaar dan wel een bedrieger was. De VRT produceerde “Miguel Molinos, de laatste ketter” in 1994 reeds als radiodrama. Het debuut van Dirk Van Babylon werd in 1986 onderscheiden met de Leo J. Krynprijs. De auteur schrijft ook sonnetten onder het pseudoniem Pasquino.
